Gu Family Book Ep 14

SJ lights the candle and says your exactly the same. WR speaks normally and replies that the years show on SJ’s face.  SJ says cuz there is no human who can win against time. WR mutters about how humans arent able to live 100 years and disappear and never get to live for a thousandyears-there is nothing to feel too bad about. SJ asks why did you come back – did you really become a thousand year demon. WR says before I answer I will ask one thing – in the woods today I saw someone very strange. he wasnt human or a gumiho. he had your bead bracelet- who is he? who is it?


KC runs thru the streets looking for YW. he finds her and she says you are late. he asks are you Dam YW? she smiles and scratches her head looking bashful. then she looks at him. he doesnt blink and keeps staring in surprise
the woman in the hat is watching SR perform on her drums.

KC steps closer looking at her up and down. he asks – why did you come out (dressed) like this? YW: I wear this often. why – are these clothes weird/strange? he grunts yes. YW: what is weird. he says “just – all.” she walks off in anger so he asks where are you going. she says you said it was weird so you wont want to be with a weird girl so he says that’s not the meaning of weird I meant. YW: then how am I weird? KC: it doesnt seem like you – it doesnt seem like you and someone else so it felt unfamiliar -that’s what i meant. YW: this is me too. KC: ok dont get mad. she sighs and says I dont know what I was expecting from you. she walks off so he holds her sleeve and asks where are you going now. she says to buy the wish to hang on the lantern.

they go and stand in front of all the lanterns with wishes written on them hanging down. she asks how is it. do you like it. KC: it’s great – it’s perfect.  what about your wish lantern? YW: we just hung it now. KC: wasnt that my wish lantern? YW: what are you saying – that’s my wish lantern.  for you to hurry and find the gu family book and become human – that’s my wish. he keeps staring at her with so much love in his eyes so she says stop looking at me or my face will have a hole on it. he finally smiles and looks up too – then they stare and smile at each other
WR stands in the street watching the two of them. he keeps staring at KC and KC senses him and looks over.
SR finishes her drum routine. people clap. CJ too. GW asks how was it. you wanted to see it. are you satisfied. the woman speaks Japanese so I have no idea what she is saying. she gets up to leave and SR understood what she said cuz SR says sorry I did my best so I am sorry you didn’t like it. GW asks what is this – did you say you didn’t like the drums. the guy translates the woman said it wasn’t great so WS rubs it in and repeats it saying “it’s too bad that the best had to hear she wasnt great. how could this happen” CJ speaks up and says what WS said is correct – how could this happen. she asks the guest to answer what was so average about it. she lists all the technical stuff about how great the sound was and stuff for someone who picked up the sticks after 10 yrs so what part did you not like. SR says sorry she is a young gisaeng and doesnt know her place but the woman says it was wrong. she lists what was wrong with the drumming and defends her earlier comment in Korean this time. the guy looks over at SR and says excuse us. GW says SR messed this up well. he gets up and leaves. WS smirks.
GW apologizes for the break in fun. the guy says the woman did have fun. GW says he didnt know the woman spoke Korean so well so the guy says she learned Korean with her deceased husband for a long time and I taught her too. GW says I didnt know that and almost mistook her for Korean. he watches her walk by.
SB says SR came. SR apologizes but GW yells at her to retire from now on from performing in front of guests cuz she couldnt control a young insolent gisaeng and in front of an important guest she didnt perform her best. she says sorry but he says you should apologize to my guest. come tm morning and apologize to her since it’s too late tonight

CJ is walking down the street with the maid from the gisaeng house. CJ remembers the past when TS, KC, her maid all gathered here. TS made a wish for the health of his parents and family and the Inn. they all finish the rest of his sentence. KC asks how can you make the same wish every year. TS says cuz they are the most precious to me. KC says dont do that and starting from today add one more line - please let me meet a pretty girl and get married. CJ says I already wrote that as my wish cuz I cant make my only brother end up an old bachelor. they all laugh when TS grabs KC in a neck hold for joking around.

KC runs into CJ when he is next to YW. he calls out CJ. YW watches them. CJ turns around and runs into a drunk man. she says sorry to him but he grabs her wrist and says look at this gisaeng. are you trying to entice me to pour a drink for me – is that it? you are really pretty. KC goes over and makes the guy let go and tells him to go home to his wife or go sleep.

KC escorts CJ back to the gisaeng house. he asks are you still scared of me? cuz of what I looked like back then-are you still like this. sorry I didn’t tell you earlier. I didnt know how to explain it to you so I hesitated.  she interrupts and asks does that person know too – that girl who was next to you awhile ago - that girl Dam YW – does she know about what you are? he says yes. she says thanks for helping today. I will repay by pouring you a drink when you stop by one day. he calls out her name and starts to say how she shouldnt say that but she interrupts and says a gisaeng said she would repay with a drink so what is so wrong with that. KC: dont talk like that- whatever clothes you wear – wherever you live – to me – you are always Park CJ so dont act like you arent you – don’t talk like that. CJ: what you are saying – does that mean a gisaeng shouldnt act like a gisaeng and live?  a monster who acts like he isnt a monster- like someone who lives like he is a person. which side is harder? till the end pretending like you arent. when she goes in she stops  cuz she wants to look back.

KC walks back and it’s almost dawn. YW has changed into her normal outfit and stands outside waiting holding her outfit in her hand. they stare at each other. she runs over and asks did you take her home well. he says yes. you came back to the person I know too. she nods yes. he says let’s go. YW: she is the most precious person to you huh? that meaning that could never change. CJ is that kind of person huh? sorry I said something difficult. she walks off but he runs to her and makes her turn around to face him. the chicken that he is – he blurts out I am hungry. since it’s daylight - should we go eat some soup before we go back

gong and gon here the report from the kid that KC and YW stayed out all night. the kid says the two of them didnt come back last night. gon is furious and says I will kill him (KC) so gong stops him with his broom and tells the kid to hold him back. gon says dont stop me. I am going right now to kill KC. gong says if PJ hears they both will die. KC wont be the only one in trouble YW could be in trouble too.  PJ comes over and says you are here. gon and the kid bow to him.  gong says good morning to him. PJ asks is something going on. gong lies and says nothing is going on. we were just doing some light exercising with gon. werent we gon? gon: yes we were.  PJ asks Gon if YW didnt wake up yet so gong says I sent her on an errand early this morning. PJ asks then what about  KC so gong says I sent both of them together. didnt I gon? Gon backs him up thru gritted teeth. PJ asks to see YW when she comes back. gong says to Gon – you held it in well. a student runs over for Gon. gon asks what’s going on. the guy says student kim.
they find Kim hanging sideways from a tree with the life sucked out of him. TS comes over and sees it too. PJ asks gong where he sent YW and KC on their errand. where are those two right now?

KC is almost done eating so she asks do you want some more of mine. KC: why? arent you hungry? she doesnt have much of an appetite cuz it’s too early.  he pours hers into his and says you should eat breakfast well though. some men cancel their orders cuz they say they lost their appetite cuz of trash. they are talking about KC cuz they think he killed MS so YW gets angry and asks are you saying that to us right now. they call KC trash cuz he repaid kindness with murder so she gets up and goes over to them. YW yells at them saying who are you saying repaid kindness with murder but KC tries to tell her to stop. she says you should tell people it’s not true now. how much longer are you going to live as a criminal with that misunderstanding. (she doesn’t want KC to be misunderstood as MS’s killer anymore) but he says it is true my lord died cuz of me and it’s true that I wasnt able to stop it. even if I get insulted and get fingers pointed at me – I have nothing to say. if you just look at the outcome -it’s true i wasnt able to protect the lord. the man tells KC not to show up at the village again or be careful of the backstabbing.  she high kicks the guy right in his face and tells him to be careful mouthing off.  KC stops him from hitting YW and says if you understood then you stop too.

M comes over with his men and says why is it so loud this morning. who is this – isnt it CKC. KC says were you alive? M: of course I am alive. what is going on this morning. M was talking to the other two guys but his guy yells at KC saying our hyungnim is asking what’s going on so M hits him.  M says not these two (KC and YW) those two. everyone is confused as M yells at the two troubemakers and insults them and sticks up for KC saying how dare you call him trash. so KC is shocked along with M’s men. M calls KC his precious dongsang and makes the two get lost. M puts his hand on KC’s tummy and worries that he might have gotten indigestion.  His men want to know if M doesn’t feel well cuz that is CKC. M makes him add hyungnim after KC from now on. KC asks why are you acting like this – it’s gross. M says how he owes him a debt of life and calls KC his savior so YW asks what that is. KC tells him to keep quiet about it. M says of course – if a dongsang says to do that then I have to keep quiet. call me whenever you need me from here on and whoever wherever whatever happens I will settle things. got that? he winks at KC
they walk off and M waves bye at them and says go well see you soon. YW says it must be nice for you to have such a thoughtful hyungnim.  gon finds them and she hides her outfit. she asks what brings him here. he says her dad is urgently looking for her. she asks have I been caught by dad that I stayed out all night. was KC caught too. KC: there is no way. suddenly he gets scared and asks did I get caught too? gon says Kim was discovered dead.
the body is laid out and KC goes to the room. student asks what are you going to do. KC asks to see the body with his own eyes. let me see. but the student says before that answer this – where and what were you doing last night. TS asks the student-  what are you all doing -how can you be this rude to someone who came to pay his respects to the deceased. student says we have to know and tells KC to answer -where and what were you doing last night
YW tells her dad how KC was with her all night. PJ: you were with KC all night? what does that mean? YW: we went to the lantern festival and stayed out all night looking at the lanterns. PJ yells at her. are you in your right mind right now? cuz they are all living in fear that KC will be found and dragged off by GW for killing MS so they have to be careful and not appear in public but she went to the festival with him . she explains it was cuz she felt bad since KC couldnt get along with the other students well ever since he came in.  every day he gets misunderstood and people talk about him. PJ says why do you have that kind of feeling for KC. why do you not know how your father feels? up to now you were a daughter who didnt do those things so I always trusted you and respected your thoughts but… she cuts in and says “but siding with KC – does that mean you cant trust or respect what i think of KC?  PJ says he is very disappointed in her. YW: I am sorry father but.. he wont let her say another word and walks out
TS meets him and says I decided. PJ asks did you think on it enough. TS says cuz of what happened today (Kim’s death) he didnt think it would be good to drag out more time. PJ asks do you think Kim’s death was caused by GW? is that why?  TS: i heard GW knows KC’s identity -if he is committing those terrible murders then it means he is trying to frame KC. I will go to the Inn so tell me what I have to do.
the woman is mixing something when SR goes to see her.the woman invites her to sit and asks what brings you here. SR apologizes for her young gisaeng. the woman says I heard you’ve been at the gisaeng house a long time. SR says it’s been 22 or 23 yrs. the woman says she was moved by the drums – you are impressive since you havent played in 10 yrs.  SR asks then why she didnt say that yesterday. the woman knew she could never invite SR over so she made that fuss so that SR would come like this. SR says then the woman should be the one to apologize. SR gets ready to leave but the woman asks to be invited to the gisaeng house once. SR says regular women aren’t allowed in. it’s not a place for you to have fun looking around.  the woman says what if I want to go just once. SR says there are only two ways a woman can come in – become a gisaeng or the owner. when SR leaves the woman repeats that
GW asks where did I see her before – she looks familiar like I know her for sure. SB offers to find out about her so GW says do it carefully cuz dont forget we still have to look good in front of her. SB says dont worry and leaves. GW repeats where did I see her before
the woman in the hat disrobes to bathe and she has the tattoo on her shoulder and puncture scars.

PJ and gong go inside to meet with gon, TS, KC, and YW. KC bows to PJ but he looks angry. PJ tells them TS is leaving here for the time being so KC asks where is he going. PJ says to the Inn. TS explains someone has to go inside next to GW and find out what he really intends to do – that big picture he is planning. KC: so are you saying you will do that? alone? TS: GW still doesnt know that I am no longer under the spell (hypnosis). KC says to PJ: send me instead – I will go. PJ says you cant – did you forget that the death of MS is still on your hands. so you keep doing what teacher gong told you to do. KC: student kim died too – people are still dying in the woods and no one knows who is doing it. PJ puts Gon in charge of finding that out (who the killer is). Gon agrees to take on the job. then PJ tells YW- as soon as TS comes back from his work you will be getting married to him so know that. KC, gong, TS, and most of all Gon look on with shock. (Gon didnt see this rival coming cuz he was clueless about TS – Gon’s eyes got really big) YW says father this is too sudden. why are you saying that suddenly? but PJ says it wasnt sudden. from a long time ago MS and I already made this promise. YW: but father. he interrupts and says from here on – step back from your other duties and training at the school so you can get ready to be a wife in body and behavior. everyone hope for TS to succeed safely.  he calls and end to the meeting and leaves. gong follows him. KC and YW look at each other. Gon looks pretty shaken too.
gong asks if PJ had to go so far and say such things. PJ says if I didnt then later on it will be harder for them to handle it
YW runs off and gon chases after her
TS looks at KC worried.

YW goes to her room and gon asks to go inside. he sees her sitting by her dress crying. she says I want to be alone. when he leaves she starts sobbing. gon is outside and can hear that
CJ practices her drumming. she remembers when KC looked like a monster and she yelled for him to go away and that she doesnt like him. she drums so hard while crying she drops the sticks. she mutters how she is the one who said she doesnt like KC and chased him away saying he is a monster.  there is a guest for her
CJ goes and her maid is there with GW. he says tells her to come in. the maid is her present. the maid says I got the order to serve you here from today on. GW: since I gave you a present you have to repay me – come over and pour me a drink. she says how is she my present – she was mine and you stole her. WS : what did I say – i told you she was insolent and brazen. GW: then what present do i have to give you to make you happy. she says will you give back the Inn you stole then my heart will be comforted somewhat. WS yells at her so CJ continues: before that get rid of that girl next to you then my mood will be better.  WS asks him how much longer are you going to listen to her outrageousness. so GW tells WS to go out -didnt you hear? CJ said for me to get rid of you. go out. WS asks how can you treat me like this but he yells at her to get out. WS glares at CJ on her way out. GW asks will you pour me a drink now. CJ goes over and she does. he says you are enduring well more than I thought. she says you taught me -for the sake of staying alive – to do everything I can. GW: I did. CJ: so I decided to do that.  no matter what i have to do – I will stay alive till the end and do my best to stab you in the heart and kill you with my own hands.  he likes the look in her eyes. he says I will wait – I will keep you by my side until the day you stick that knife in my heart.
KC is counting and gong asks why his face looks so disturbed. KC is startled and tells gong to go around making some noise so people arent alarmed. gong asks if KC cant focus cuz of the decision to get YW married off. KC says that’s not it. gong asks how much he counted. KC says I think I counted around 6,000. gong: how much did you count up to with the bracelet off. KC: how can you say such a thing – taking off my bracelet-  inside the school and where there are people I promised him (PJ) to never to take the bracelet off. gong: you did? KC: yes i did. gong: keep counting beans. he turns to leave but asks what is cuz of YW? even without the bracelet the reason that you didnt change form. so that’s it. how could that happen. he wanders off

flashback shows that KC already tested that theory. while YW was napping on his shoulder he took the bracelet off. he stayed the same. he did that too when they stared at the lanterns. he didn’t change cuz he was with her.
KC narrates –to tell the truth- I don’t know the reason why either. why when YW is next to me that happens. flashback to YW taking his hand in his gumiho form and him becoming normal again in front of everyone

WR shows up at the school and looks at KC. KC senses it. KC turns around and asks who are you. WR just grins. KC  gets up and spills beans everywhere. when he looks back WR is already gone
PJ opens the door so SS goes and meets everyone in a room - gon, TS, and gong. PJ orders them to say hello to SS. gon, gong, and TS each introduce themselves saying their names and what kind of identification they have as men of honor. TS says how he has his father’s ID nametag. camera shows that SR is there too and says hello. she says which identification name tag she has too. PJ says how the four of them swear to be SS’s shadows and to accept them. all five bow. SS thanks them all. since there are all of you to go on the road with me-i dont know if the road will be paved with thorns. it might be a lonely path where no one knows you. (as in they may not get recognition for their good deeds) PJ says with the heart that is thinking of the country -how could there be just comfortable roads? how can you go on that thorny road alone. gong says if our strengths can be of help. he pledges the rest of his life. SR says I will be your ears. TS says even with my life - I will be your walking stick (the one blind people use to guide their path) PJ asks SS to accept their meaning.
TS goes and meets with GW. GW: so you came. TS says you said it was my last chance – if I fail this time too -you said something terrible would happen to my sister and threatened me. GW asks did you find out what SS is going to do with the 5000 nyang. TS says I found out. GW: what is it? TS: they are going to build ships. it doesnt seem like regular ships.
TS had asked can I tell GW that? SS explains that TS has to give that much information for GW to believe. and tells TS what he needs to find out – if GW is selling information or keeping something.
TS shows what he brought from SS and GW looks at the drawing of the ship.

SJ was knocked down and gets up from the floor. he remembers how WR asked who is that kid? SJ: SH’s son. WR: SH? SJ: the human girl you married. WR remembers her and asks did she have a son. SJ says he is your son too. after that happened to you, SH had your son alone. WR asks where she is now. SJ said she died soon after giving birth. WR: died? SJ: yes. WR: what a waste – I wanted to break her neck myself.  SJ looks horrified and says look here WR.  WR: you asked why I came back? it’s for the sake of destroying everything. his eyes glow red and he threw SJ against the wall. SR remembers that conversation and tries to get up saying – no – KC.
*since this scene opened the episode, it means WR knew KC was his son the entire time and that’s why he stalked KC twice
YW hears the report that they couldnt see KC from a while ago. kid says he went to go tell him to eat dinner but he wasnt there.  I looked everywhere and he isnt here. other student says he is probably hiding in the woods again and killing people. she asks how he could say such things, but he says you should be careful too -you might get backstabbed by him one day.  YW asks dont you remember what teacher gong said – without evidence or proof dont accuse someone. student asks why are you and teacher gong taking his side and not ours. he isnt a human. she asks why are you dividing sides to this side and that side. how is KC on that side? he says cuz KC isnt human. she says he wants to become a person and came here. like you all came here to live like people. i’m not taking KC’s side. if you were in his situation I would be defending you too. she turns and walks off
PJ asks did you just stand there and watch YW go into the woods alone? (as in you didn’t stop her) the student says sorry she just took off before we could stop her. PJ says gon’s name in a pleading way so gon says I will go and come back. he tells the student to follow and leaves to get YW
YW is in the woods calling out to KC. someone is watching her.
KC went to go see SJ. he asks are you inside? he runs in and the place is empty. he hears a sound and goes to the library where SJ is slumped over. KC asks why are you like this – who did this. SJ says hurry and get away – run away to somewhere far from here. KC – what are you saying run away. SJ says he showed up to kill you. KC asks who? SJ says WR – your father. hurry and run away to somewhere he cant find you- run to somewhere far away -KC ya -  hurry.
YW hears leaves rustling and calls out to KC. WR’s eyes are glowing red. she asks who is there. show yourself right now. he growls and runs around to distract and disorient her. she gives chase.
KC runs out of the house and takes off
YW falls down and her hair comes undone. she hears footsteps. she looks up and faces WR. KC hears her calling out for him – help me KC. KC says YW.

WR goes over to her and gets down on one knee to her eye level. he touches her face – lifts her chin and smiles.
KC says YW
