Gu Family Book Ep 24

Starts from SS asking what do you want from me. KC asks how far can you trust me. he says how he wants to cut all ties of misdeeds now - he cant forgive GW’s monstrous deeds anymore. SS says then make me a promise -no matter what happens that you wont kill out of revenge. GW will be arrested and executed legally and his accomplices will get the same punishment so don’t get blood on your hands cuz of a your transformed state. cuz then you wont be any different from GW – can I trust you to keep your promise. KC says yes.




Gon, TS, and M fight the guards as KC frees YW, choi, and the servant. KC asks if his father is safe. you aren’t hurt right? choi says I am ok.  gon, TS, and M and his guy come in. TS asks if she is safe. YW says yes I am. KC says there is no time cuz SS already arrived. YW asks if SS came too. KC says we are going to see the end of GW today.  we all have to go there so you…but she cuts him off and says that’s good cuz I wanted to get back at GW. KC says no – go back to school with my dad. cuz you were tied up all night your health is not good right now. she points out how she kicked him -after getting hit can you still say that? I am still ok. KC: YW. she says I want to stay with you.  that’s a place that will go down in history as the end of GW so I want to be there together too. cant I do that?  *that’s how she ended up going with them.

GW says to SS – thanks to you it was fun – go well. but KC shows up with his gang and says it would be sad if you just left. do you remember what I said in the past by any chance – that I would do by best to return to get this Inn back and stuck my broom through your desk – that day is today. SB lights the gun and aims. GW tells KC to go well. YW saw the gun first and says no. she calls out to KC just as she gets shot in the back.

she falls and KC catches her. he holds her in his arms and sees all the blood coming out of her back. she cries as she says his name. she reaches up and grabs his sleeve saying don’t go anywhere. her hand drops to her side as she closes her eyes. gon and TS drop their swords and go over to her. KC’s eyes flash green in anger as he cries and stands up. he looks right at SB. he walks over and knocks down the other guards in the way as SB reloads his gun. SB aims and shoots but the gun wont work. KC’s eyes flash green as he grabs the gun and knocks it away and beats SB up till he is bloody. then he pins him against the wall and his eyes flash green again as he says die. all of you evil humans should die. SS calls out to KC. SB struggles to breathe. KC looks at SS and remembers the promise – not to get blood on his hands cuz of his changed state’s fury. no matter what happens – promise you wont kill in your transformed state. KC says to SS – but this guy deserves to die. He doesn’t deserve to live.  I will kill him with my own hands. SS says if you start getting blood on your hands through murder – later on you will end up getting more blood on them. don’t do that KC. KC ignores him but stops when YW calls out to KC. she is sitting up with gon’s support. KC lets SB go and runs over to her. gon says hurry and get her treated. KC: ok. GW says no one can leave this place. no one can leave here alive. kill them all. his guards draw their swords. SS yells for them to step back. he goes over to GW and says I cant put up with your misdeeds anymore. he calls for his army. they barge through and come and surround GW’s men from the rooftop with archers and soldiers on the ground. SS orders them to arrest GW and his men for treason. for setting up innocent people as traitors, selling off info about the country and for trying to kill me. GW says are you saying you dare to mess with me. SS says if you were prepared to go after my neck you should have prepared to put your neck out too. you dared to draw your sword on me. what will you do – give me your neck now or throw away that sword and surrender. GW looks towards the goongbon but the aide asks K if SS gave them 3 days to leave. then we have to leave here by tm. K bows to SS then all the Japanese guards leave and abandon GW. as he is being dragged off, SB yells for the guards to escort GW so guards throw smoke bombs and GW gets away with his men. SS yells for his soldiers not to lose GW and arrest them. KC cries and holds YW in his arms
*I know that if she was fated to die cuz of KC, she would have sooner or later down the line, but it didn’t have to be today and not like this. GW was their worst enemy – once he goes down, there would have been less danger and threat. She should have listened to KC and not have gone with them. She was sort of pushing fate if you ask me.
SR hears that YW was shot by the gun. her condition is very critical. CJ asks what is that gun. SR says I didn’t see it for myself but from what I hear  you use a powder keg to push the bullet along to leave a wound in the body and if you get shot by that bullet in the end you die. CJ asks if that means YW could die. SR: what do we do.
Gong teacher tells PJ according to what the doctor said there is not much time left (for YW to live). PJ remembers when YW was young and wanted to learn to use the sword. he asked her why so she mentions how some kid got hurt cuz of her and she couldn’t do anything and just cried. so that no one can get hurt cuz of me – I have to get strong.  so I want to learn the sword. PJ gets up and leaves YW’s bed side

KC told SJ about YW. SJ says so in the end that’s what happened. KC asks -so tell me a way I can save YW –you should know something since you are a monk. just let me know some solution and I will do anything. SJ says where is a solution in a human’s fate. you should have avoided that fate but you didn’t. so you are paying for that. KC says there has to be something I can do. I have supernatural blood, but SJ reminds him I already told you - being able to heal with supernatural blood is only something you can do once in that person’s lifetime. KC yells: YW is dying! SJ: that is your fate too so what can you do except to accept it. KC asks is there really no way (no solution)?  SJ says just go and stay by YW’s side – that is the best you can do now
KC goes back to school and looks at YW’s room. the kid comes over and says you came. gon was looking for you. he tells KC how PJ took his own students with Gon to go look for GW in the woods and get GW himself.
Gon, TS, and PJ and the rest of his students are chasing after GW and his men

GW and his men are running in the woods and they stop and hide. his guard says students are everywhere in the woods. GW asks where is SB – ask SB - I will do as SB decides. a student discovers GW and fires a colorful powder arrow into the sky to alert PJ where GW location is. TS and his students get there first then PJ and Gon and the rest of the students attack. GW’s guard says to escort GW so two of his men go with him. as GW is about to run away, KC stands there blocking him. GW orders his men to kill KC right now and get rid of him – what are you doing – cut his neck, but KC tells the guards -if you want to live it would be better if you threw down your swords and ran. when KC’s eyes flash green the men obey and run away. GW picks up the sword and says come closer and I will cut your neck. do you want to die. KC cuts off his hand. GW screams. KC asks is it agonizing? compared to the anguish you gave us it’s nothing at all.  KC walks away. GW yells in pain and drops to his knees
WS hears that GW was attacked and dragged off to prison by SS. when he was caught his hand was cut off. CJ comes over and asks did you hear the news. the lord was arrested. she makes WS steps aside for her cuz she is on her way to see SR. WS steps aside for her.

YW wakes up and KC asks did you sleep well. what’s wrong – does it hurt a lot. she asks him to help her sit up. he tells her to stay lying down but she wants to sit up. she leans into him so he can hold her in his arms. KC: are you ok? YW: I am ok – I really am ok. how about my father. he was worried a lot huh. KC says yes he came just a while ago to see you. YW: I feel sorry to father so this is big trouble. KC: so hurry and get better (stand up). then it will be ok. she says I have 3 wishes. will you listen to them?

KC told PJ that YW wants everyone to gather and eat dinner together today. so everyone gathers to eat. kid asks is that for real – did that happen to gon. gong told everyone -yes there was. he says how bad gon was with the sword when he first came to learn. the kid asks if that is for real cuz he cant imagine that. YW adds that when Gon was ten years old he was shorter than her. she felt some pain as she smiled but tried not to let it show. gon adds that after 11, I grew more than you. YW says how Gon is picky about his food. so the teacher asks what kind of food do you not like. YW: carrots. TS laughs at Gon so KC says to TS – she said carrots. TS stops laughing. YW asks if TS didn’t like carrots too. TS tries to deny it but Gong says there is something similar between gon and TS.

As the rest of the group talk, YW suddenly doesn’t look well and KC and her dad notices. YW drops her chopsticks and KC sees that she is dripping blood down to the floor. he asks her to go in now and not overdo it but she wants to stay a little longer. PJ says to go in and rest now. she cries and says I am sorry. I am sorry father. PJ cries and takes her hand. PJ says you are my greatest happiness. KC and everyone is crying. PJ tells KC to take care of YW. KC: yes master.

KC is carrying her back to her room when she calls out his name and says can I tell you my second wish? KC: what is it? YW: I want to go for a walk. KC: a walk – at this late at night. YW: yes the two of us.

they sit together by a river. she says there is something I am curious about. KC: what? YW: why are you sacred of king spiders. he says cuz it has so many legs. YW: really? that’s why you are scared of it. KC: yes -why? cant I be? YW: no you can. KC:  I am curious about something too. YW: what? KC: do you remember by any chance back then when I said that I would make you my wife - if I say the same thing to you now – what will you answer. YW: since when did you remember. KC: ever since the moment I knew you were dam YW. YW: then why didn’t you say anything. KC: cuz you already started having meaning for me. she looks at him -speechless. KC: so YW will you marry me? YW cries and says but I cant cook well. with tears flowing, he repeats: will you marry me. YW: also I cant sew well either. KC: will you marry me. she wipes his tears and says don’t cry – I dont want to be a sad memory for you but a happy memory. I don’t want to be your tear – instead it would be good if I was your laughter. if you think of me I wish you would be happy. that is my third wish. he takes her hand and says let’s be sure to meet again. I will wait. let’s be sure to meet again. I love you. she says I love you. blue lights float around as they kiss. KC narrates: when I meet you again at that time I will recognize you first. when I meet you again at that time I will love you first. as they kiss her hand drops and her head falls on his shoulder. he calls out her name and tries to shake her awake. she doesn’t answer so he cradles her head and screams out her name and cries.
KC: that is how her breathing stopped and my time stopped as well

PJ, Gong, SR, and CJ are alone in their rooms engulfed in their sadness.  Gon is drowning in his. he cries and says her name as he stands alone in the dark out in the practice yard
*I was so upset that Gon never got the chance to tell YW that he loved her. Even though Gon knew she didn’t feel the same way and her heart was too full with KC, it shouldn’t negate his feelings for her. He remained loyal and stood by her side almost dying to protect her – his love deserved to be acknowledged and known. It made me realize KC wouldn’t be the only one living with a broken heart the rest of his life.

one morning TS goes in and finds KC just sitting there in her room. her flower has wilted. TS says I knew you would be here. KC says it still doesn’t feel real that YW isnt here. not too long ago she was smiling in front of me and disappeared – where did she go and where did she disappear to – I cant even find her – I cant even meet her. TS says more than we thought – death might be a lot more  (?) it might be nothing at all. KC wonders if it wasn’t for me – would she still be alive -living smiling and happy as before. TS says if someone asked me - would you rather live 100 years alone or live a 100 days in love. I would choose 100 days in love. more than anyone, YW was happy cuz of you isn’t that enough . KC looks at the dead flower in her vase. TS says to come out now cuz everyone is waiting. KC grabs his bag and goes out with him

KC goes out to greet PJ and says sorry for all the inconvenience during that time. PJ asks if he is going to go find the gu family book now but KC says no for the time being – I am going to live as a supernatural being in this world. until I can meet the person I was going to grow old with again – I will wait awhile longer. Gong gives him medicine to eat for times when his body doesn’t feel well.  KC thanks him. gong also gives KC his ring and says to take care of it. choi steps up and hugs KC. KC says father. choi says you don’t have to say anything I know it all. take care of yourself. KC: yes father. TS’s servant says drop by often. KC agrees to do that. PJ gives KC YW’s sword. he says you take charge of it from now on and don’t bring shame to it and to take care of it well. KC: yes master. kid cries and tells him to take care. TS says see you again. KC bows to PJ one last time and walks out of the school.

as KC walks down the steps, gon says to KC’s back – go well Choi KC. KC doesn’t turn and says be well friend. he holds up her sword to say goodbye
the maid gives CJ the vest back. CJ talks about what first love and last love does to a person. how the last love completes the person (makes them whole). now KC must feel complete ( whole).
CJ bribes a guard at night to let her in to see GW in jail. since it’s dark GW cant see and asks who are you. she says it’s me. GW: CJ. she goes inside and unwraps alcohol. she says since it’s your last path– I thought I should pour you a cup of alcohol. he asks what it means. she puts the cup in his hand and pours. CJ drops the formal speech from here on and says in banmal “end your pathetic life now that you have left.” GW asks why she is being merciful to him. she says I’m not trying to be merciful. I just want to end your breath with my own hands. in that moment he looks like he respects her. he drinks and asks her to pour another. she does. he says this life was no fun. it wasn’t greed. if I was alive I just wanted to feel it. he starts to cough up blood then he finally dies alone

KC is walking when he sees SS with his soldiers. SS asks are you leaving. they walk together. SS asks where are you going. KC: I don’t know. SS: are you leaving without knowing the end. KC: yes lord. SS: there is no answer to living as human. just to try to become a better human. don’t have fear. that confidence that you are living well on your own (strength)  -it will make you stronger. KC: yes lord. SS: more than anyone I ever met up to now – you were the nicest and a warm person. KC says if something difficult happens to you – shoot the color powder and I will come back to help. There is one thing I want to ask. SS: what is it? KC: do you think the gu family book exits for real. SS: if you believe that you can become human its existence is probably possible. KC bows and walks away alone into the night
blue lights revive YW’s wilted flower in her room.
screen says 422 years later 2013
present day city life. in a room YW’s sword is displayed in a case along with other stuff that Gong and YW gave KC. her flower is on a table in a vase. his cell phone rings. a modern looking KC is taking a bath and reading about gong’s medicine in a magazine. then KC is showering and blowing drying his hair. he is still wearing Gong’s ring. He gets dressed and picks out a jacket and next to it his red vest is hanging in his closet. his phone was ringing the whole time so he puts it on speakerphone - TS’s voice says -what happened –  you are the main star of the opening party tonight so if you don’t show up then what do we do- show up in ten mins if you don’t then. KC hangs up.
KC looks out the window and says how many moons he has seen alone. a girl is running down the street and only her feet are shown. she runs into someone and says I am sorry.as he stares at YW’s sword, KC’s voice says I’ve been alone 422 years alone.

KC turns when he is called president (CEO). it’s his father choi who is now his butler. choi gives him his medicine and says I have the car ready for you downstairs. KC says let’s go.
the guy brings his KC’s sports car around and KC says you did well. he called TS’s servant by the wrong name -the old one so the guy says you did it again, my name is Kim KB. KC: oh yeah that’s right. since I lived a long time I forget. the guy tells him to go safely. after KC drives off, the guy mutters - are you kidding around – you are way younger than me
KC talks about quickly the world changed and the way humans live changed so much. and the history they remember too. he passes by a statue of Lee SS. he sees a girl running by as his car is stopped at a crosswalk. he seems to recognize her. it was YW but he didn’t get to see her face clearly.
he pulls up and hears a girl saying save me. he tries to ignore it and says I didn’t hear that - I heard wrong. but he hears her screaming save me again.

a woman looks like she is about to be robbed by M and his men. the woman in trouble is YW’s teacher. she begs him to save her. but M says why keep saying save me – it puts me in a bad mood. all he wants is the interest on the money that her brother borrowed from him. she asks why ask me for the interest on the money my brother took. M says she is the brother’s bloodline and takes her bag and points out they borrowed someone’s money and bought an expensive designer bag. she asks for it back. he holds it out of her reach and tells her to get it. KC takes it from him. KC seems happy to see him again. M asks who are you. KC: Ma bong chul? he calls YW’s teacher by her old name too.  M asks what did you say and who is Ma bong chul. KC asks are you still taking money from people here -how could you after being reborn. M asks what is this guy saying. M tries to get the bag back but KC holds it away and says “back off quietly while I count to 3.” M doesn’t obey so KC counts to 3 and his eyes turn green. then he fights all of them and gets the bag back for the woman and hands it to her with a smile. some girl behind him says don’t move- hold your hands up. hurry. M tells his men to run so they grab the bag and go. the woman goes after them.

the voice says not to move. KC lifts his arms and says look here you are mistaken right now. I was just…. he turns and looks and it’s YW walking towards him holding out a gun. he just stares at her and then puts his hands down. she tells him not to move. KC says YW. YW: what is this - how do you know my name? she lowers her gun and says do you know me?
KC narrates: if I meet you again at that time I will recognize you first. if I meet you again at that time I will love you first.

she repeats do you know me. KC:I think I know you – it seems like I don’t know you too.
KC looks up and notes that they are meeting under the crescent moon under the peach blossom tree.
KC narrates: also the time that stopped for me started to flow again
(end credits roll)

a doorbell rings so KC opens the door and asks who is it. gon takes off his sunglasses and holds out his ID badge (Bang Sung Jun) and asks can I go in for a second. behind Gon, SS steps up in a suit and takes his sunglasses off
