The Moon That Embrace The sun Ep 5

YW is being trained to bow properly so that the candle lights do not flicker –very calmly and quietly move your body but she stumbles and the light does flicker. Then she is told how she needs to hold her head as she bows and not shake her head, but the hairpiece is heavy so she falters again

H walks by outside and wonders: Did you sleep well? starting from today you must have started your training. there is a crashing sound from inside. YW is trying to balance plates on her arms so she doesnt move them as she walks. He encourages her from outside. If it’s lonely and difficult work – I believe cuz it’s you that you can endure it well. He hears a crashing noise cuz something broke meaning YW messed up.  H says the aide who is training YW must be having a hard time. that woman sighs deeply every time YW messes up

The aide gives YW some food saying the prince sent this for YW and YW reads a letter from H
H: Even though I cant go to meet you right away now cuz not allowed – I will save it and wait for the night I meet you as my wife. YW smiles as she reads it

At night J is alone when the dowager comes to her. she asks if J is all prepared. J: yes. dowager asks if someone was brought. There is a partition and someone is behind it. Servant says yes. Dowager hands over stuff that belongs to YW and tells J to start.
(The dowager reminds me of the grim reaper in that scene! -Fand)

J starts her ritual. The dowager stands by and watches. J chants something and fire smolders and the black ash colored smoke (sort of like a cousin of the one from the tv show Lost)  flies up into the air and J’s eyes get scary wide. The black cloud of smoke flies around the room and hits J.

YW is in her room reading H’s letter again and smiling. She wraps the letter up and puts it by her pillow. She blows out the candle to go to bed.

J makes the smoke go around the room and go outside and it goes into YW’s room and snakes its way across to her and YW wakes up and the smoke chokes her. she crawls to the door but the smoke keeps choking her so she passes out.

Dowager asks J if it’s all over. J: yes. Dowager asks when she can see its effects. J says she doesn’t have that skill yet to kill someone whose death is predetermined by fate. all she can do is make YW sick.
Dowager says this way is better so no suspicion will arise. And if it doesn’t work out well (meaning if YW doesnt die)– then J has to finish it up with her own hands.

Dowager walks over and opens the door to reveal the princess inside. Dowager tells her not to be fearful or nervous cuz what the princess wants will happen now. the girl is shaking in fear

A servant screams when she sees YW lying there on the ground. The aid tries to wake her and tells the other girl to call for help/doctor.
Minister argues with the king that YW’s condition doesnt look well even after waiting days and it’s not an illness you get overnight (meaning she had it for some time) and it’s not an illness that can be treated.  (meaning she wont recover in a few days) but the king reminds them she is like the prince’s wife and should be treated as such.  another minister worries that keeping that disease here in the palace is not a good idea cuz what if it spreads thru the palace – how can they handle that fear. another one sticks up for YW and asks -your words went too far – are you saying the prince’s wife caught a contagious diease. they argue back and forth. Minister yoon says she came with an unhealthy body and dared to become the princess. and how she is getting in the way so they need to find a way to fix this. king asks what Yoon thinks is the answer. yoon says kick out the future prince’s wife cuz she hid her illness.and they should choose another prince’s wife. Also minister Heo hid his daughter’s illness and submitted her name so he needs to pay for that crime that he committed with his family cuz they hid the illness

YW’s aid is caring for YW and asks why they came suddenly cuz the doctor and others  show up. the doctor says they cant keep someone with a disease anymore in the palace so there is a royal order to hurry and prepare YW for travel. she asks how they can ask that suddenly and says they need time to put her things in order. but he says cuz of her disease that might be contagious everything that belongs to YW or whatever she used has to be removed. he orders the girls -Don’t leave anything behind and take everything to be burned

H comes over to YW’s residence. with tears in his eyes he says: are you not going to move aside. H yells at the guards: she is going to be my wife – who said you could turn her away. move! He orders them to move but they wont so he watches as YW is being escorted out.

H sees her and cries out her name. she looks at him and cries and walks out.
He keeps calling out her name and she stops to cry and look at him. He keeps saying she is my wife – move aside. The dowager watches all that.

Minister yoon tells the dowager to watch the prince cuz he will surely react. She says the prince doesnt know what they are up to yet. Yoon: do you think that? she says how H protected what’s best for the court. But he reminds her how H moved SKKS students to act.  He said something about Y and says that H knows what they are up to but is waiting till he becomes king

Dowager remembers Yoon saying what she wants will happen if she separates (?) She walks over to H and pretends to be sad for him.  Dowager: prince. H: grandmother.

She meets with H and says how much his heart must hurt. She tells him to forget that child now. He says she is going to be his wife so how could he forget her so easily. She says he must forget her. she tells him to be still and just quietly follow what needs to happen. he asks what he needs to follow and who made that. She reminds him how he shouldn’t have made the SKKS scholars act and cuz they got nothing from it. if the King and H hadnt been selfish/greedy, that child (YW) could have lived a normal life well.  If she hadnt been chosen to be the prince’s wife, what problem would there have been that she had an illness for a short time. she could have comfortably recovered with her mother’s care. look – if you act/move- who can become happy? if that kid becomes in danger it’s cuz of you prince. if that kid’s brother’s wings get cut, that’s cuz of you prince. She says if someone loses something it is his fault. and something else is his fault.  she says rules were made so no one gets hurt. doesnt get broken and just follow along being docile. He makes a fist. She tells him to be quiet and just stay still. That’s how (that kid) wont get hurt. H cries

At YW’s home, the doctor says this is strange – it’s his first time seeing an illness like this in 30 years of treating patients. he says YW’s stats are normal but she is in this bad state. YW is choking so her mom asks why she is like this. the mom begs the doctor to save her daughter. The doctor says he will use this medicine but dont count on it too much. She gets mad at him asking how could he talk so irresponsibily. the dad asks what she is doing.  Y tells her to calm down so she begs the doctor saying save her I will give everything – I will give my life if you want me to so please save my YW. She faints so the dad tells Y to take her to her room.

YW’s dad goes outside and sighs. J shows up and bows to him. She says it’s the first time they are meeting. He asks who she is. She replies that she is a royal shaman and gives her name. He says she should be in the palace so why is she here. She says she avoided being seen by others so he doesnt need to worry. she asks to see YW for a short time

J is inside the room with YW and her dad. J says that YW has an illness of the shaman.
* Sunny explained: only solution is YW will be possessed by a spirit and become a shaman. if she won’t become a shaman, it will get more painful. In the original book, YW will survive and remember everything but she can’t go home cuz she thinks that being a shaman will shame her family.

Ministers celebrate saying the heaven is helping them. Minister yoon says something and says let’s go slowly. other guy says what if the kid who was going to be the prince’s wife suddenly recovers. Yoon says that child will never come back alive to the palace unless she comes running out from under the ground after she dies. B overhears her dad say that.

Later on B asks her dad: are you going to kill YW?

B and her dad sit and talk. He asks if B is afraid of her dad or does she feel bad for that kid. he says that kid has an illness that will kill her.  he asks: what do you think is the reason why I am telling you the truth? cuz you need to prepare yourself. B: prepare?  he talks about all the wrongs he suffered from people  and how he never forgot even once and will pay back as much as he received.  and that’s how he got to this high position. did you say you wanted to live in the palace. did you say you wanted to get the prince’s heart. If you do you have to throw away your guilt and sympathy. remember how angry you felt when they took away what was yours.  when you get what you wanted remember the (?). If you cant prepare to do that then don’t go up to that position

YW’s dad watches over YW. He remembers what J said. J had told him that this was an order that was given to her. J: if I didnt accept that order, the young lady’s suffering wouldnt have stopped. He says that wouldnt happen and asks why it had to be his daughter. J says she cant know why the young lady was chosen and goes on to say that’s why YW got the illness.  He asks if there is a way to save her. she says there is a way. he asks what that is. she says the illness will be treated with death.  so he offers his life but J says it’s a life that the young lady has to treat. Meaning she has to give her life.

There is a bunch of ministers outside of the court asking the king to pick a new prince’s wife.

H is angry and HS tried to calm him down. H complains cuz the next princess will end up being Yoon’s daughter. H cries and starts to say after his wife (YW) was kicked out and went back, about needing family and at a time like this M isnt here-now in this palace there is no one that belongs to him but suddenly he stops talking.

Woon is practicing fighting another guard and other guys talk about Woon -how he isnt human- he is like a sword. one says does it make sense that he is a guard with that face.  If it wasn’t for him being a concubine’s son and stuff. another says what a waste cuz if it wasnt for the prince woon could have had a better life or something . H shows up. Guard asks what H is doing here. H talks about how uneasy he has been feeling all day and he remembered his anger from the last soccer match so now he got more uncomfortable.

H says to one guard that it’s strange but his face keeps popping up and asks if that guard was the best player that day. the guy says he isnt that skilled. H asks who was the best that day. All the guards say Jae Woon. H asks the two of them to follow him (Woon and the other guard).

After H leads away Woon and the guard. the other guards stand around saying they didnt see H like that but he sure does hold a grudge. the other one says that game happened so long ago. he wonders if the guards that were taken away will have to strip down over this. (meaning fired)

The guard is in a room without his clothes. HS comes in with clothes for him and says I dont know if this will fit you well or not. for now wear this. HW warns the guy not to talk about this

YW is lying there. she hears H calling out her name. she looks over and it’s H. he took that guards clothes to sneak out of the palace. He asks: can you recognize me? It doesn’t matter. as long as I know who you are. She closes her eyes so he calls out her name. she opens them again. YW: are you really here? H cries and asks: what do you mean? YW: not an illusion – is it really you prince? H: it’s not an illusion. I really did come to see you. are you dumb? She cries and smiles. He takes out some gold hair pin (those long ones you put through a bun) and gives it to her and puts it in her hand.

She asks what this is. He explains what it means and why it has that name. a moon that embraces the sun. a king is the sun and the king’s wife is the moon. this one has a white moon embracing a burning red sun so i gave it the name – a moon that embraces the sun.she repeats – “embraces the sun”. He says “ in my heart, you are my one and only wife. so hurry and recover your health and come back to my side. YW: prince. H: you can say it. YW: I am sorry. H: for what? YW: on the first day we met – for misunderstanding and thinking you were a thief. I am sorry. I misunderstood your heart and behaving badly. I am sorry. H: yeah you should be sorry for that. YW: everything is my fault – it’s not your fault. Whatever happens don’t blame yourself. H repeats a phrase about how royalty doesnt resent the heavens and don’t blame a person. YW: yes. he says she doesnt need to keep calling him and to talk. YW: I was very happy after meeting you.  She smiles at him but he gets choked up and says : from here on you will be a lot more happy so don’t say such things. They smile at each other.

Y and Woon are outside waiting for H. Y says woon is doing something dangerous doing this escorting H here and it’s not like Woon to do this.  Y says since this is an urgent extenuating circumstance so Y is stepping aside to let this happen but what if something bad happens to the prince. Woon says something about needing to be together with family and mentions the prince -maybe that the prince needs that too and how it will be more of a bigger danger cuz not being able to see her will become an illness for H (by staying away I think . why is this guy’s way of talking so complicated – I forgive him cuz he looks really good here) Y asks if Woon knows the prince wants to use woon as his personal guard. Y wonders if YW made that happen.

S listens from a distance and Woon looks over so she runs away. they both saw her. Y says to Woon: that kid seems to like you. Woon says he thinks differently (meaning S likes Y). Y: cuz she has a lot of interest in swords. and that her swords skills take after Woon.

H and Woon walk together. H asks if his name is Jae Woon. H says how his teacher Y calls him Woon. woon: yes he does. H asks if he can call him Woon too. Woon: it would be an honor. H thanks him saying how he wanted to come here once where his wife was born and grew up. Cuz his wife is going through such hard times but there is nothing I can do. Woon: prince. H: I am this country’s Prince.

H cries and says even as one country’s prince, I feel helpless

M is walking with two little boys and quoting stuff about how you are lonely….at nights there are stars during the day there is sun – feel lonely… Kid doesn’t get what M is talking about and asks what “mahch-oh” is. M says a wild innocent like me. I dont get any of this. M asks if that is the place. The kids point to where M needs to go- they had been showing him the way so M gives them coins to go buy some soup. they thank him and run off.

M goes into village to sell his rabbits that he killed. (those had better be fake dead bunnies he is holding) After he gets paid, M sees some men running so M goes over there.

There is an open fight. M watches from above. The person in charge of the fight asks for another challenger cuz he will win a cow. M volunteers and gives them a fake name.

He goes down to fight the big bald guy.  M gets beat up but still fights really well. He remembers the king’s words about how M can’t aspire to a certain level. And suddenly M remembers sheltering YW from the rain.  And asking if she really wont regret the path she chose. M gets beats up.

M is eating soup and overhears other men talking. They complain how taxes are being raised again and at a time like this- how the  only concern is the prince’s wife being changed and the prince’s wife that was kicked out of the palace might die today or tm- they probably already want her dead. So M attacks the guy and asks what do you mean the prince’s wife is being switched -  what do you mean they want the new prince’s wife to die.

M rides on horseback begging YW to be alive

Y’s dad wants Y to go stay somewhere else for the time being. cuz Y is someone who has to take care of the prince. Y complains cuz YW is lying there sick (hanging between life and death) so how could the dad ask him to avoid the illness. Y says he wont do it – at least he needs to know what the illness is. dad says there is no way to know what the illness is. Y says even if he has to ask every doctor in the country he will find out. Y argues if he cant protect his sister how can he take care of the prince. But the dad yells that it’s Y’s job to protect the prince. and the dad needs to make sure that happens. dad tells him to go so Y obeys.

Y looks over at his house and sees S peeking at him. He goes over and asks S  -I have a favor to ask of you. cuz YW is sleeping so I cant say bye. if YW looks for me, send me a note…. you probably dont know how to read and write but S says she knows how to read cuz YW taught her. that YW said anyone can read letters and taught her little by little. Cuz knowing words mean you can read the world. He says he feels better/safer cuz S is here. Protect her in my place while I am gone. She cries as he pats her head saying “I am asking this as a request.”

S cries and watches Y leave.

S is still crying and walks over to see YW’s dad meet with someone. YW’s dad calls her over and asks her to follow that man cuz he will take S to her new owner. the dad tells the man that S is a sweet kid and his daughter thought favored her a lot. the man tells the dad not to worry.  She gets on her knees asking: did I do something wrong? he shakes his head saying: that’s not it. S: I will fix it. dont sell me to someone else. I wont eat much food. please just let me stay by miss’ side. I promised young master I would protect the miss. He says to listen to him now. And he will call her back after YW’s illness is better

YW is choking and her mom tries to help her. her dad comes in and holds her telling as YW throws up blood. He remembers J’s words.only solution is YW will be possessed by a spirit and become a shaman. if she won’t become a shaman, it will get more painful. About how there is no way to end the spell or something so he asks if that means he has to give his daughter’s life.

J goes to meet YW’s dad. J’s voiceover says this solution is the only way to end the dying and the only safe way to allow YW to comfortably close her eyes without suffering/pain.

J goes inside. Minister Heo: I will ask one thing. J tells him to ask. he asks: if she takes that medicine can you end that kid’s suffering/pain? J: it will. he asks if it will take out that spell so YW can comfortably close her eyes.   J promises to do that

As J leaves, she says to herself to YW’s dad: I committed a sin to you that deserves death. I will live paying for this sin all my life.

YW’s dad makes that medicine by fanning the fire and the mom comes out and says she will do this while he goes in to rest. He says I will stay here so you go in and rest. she says she didnt do anything to need rest and asks for the fan but he says leave it alone -as her father I want to do something. at least let me give this medicine.

YW remembers J’s words about how she has an illness of the shaman.  YW gets up and takes out paper. She writes a note to H. I am leaving this letter with my last strength.

H is sleeping and opens his eyes. He looks over and YW is sitting there. he calls out her name. she smiles at him. H: are you all better now. YW: do you know the reason why I sent you this plant. H: You already told me that. YW: There was another hidden meaning besides that. H: hidden meaning? Y: I wanted you to be curious what would grow here in this pot so I can send you the answer to the question you were curious about. H: Does that mean you were waiting for my answer. H: You should have said that cuz I didn’t know and I thought you were avoiding me. YW bows and tells him to be healthy (well). She disappears.

H wakes up and looks over at where she was but she isnt there.

YW folds up the letter and puts it inside a box. She lies down and closes her eyes.

YW’s dad comes inside. He calls out her name and asks her to sit up to take her medicine. He mutters how the medicine is still hot and he should have cooled it. While he cools it with his finger swirling it around, he says: YW – during that time I was really sorry. might only remember being sorry -if I knew this would happen-I should have let you read as many books as you wanted and let you do everything you wanted to do. I thought a lot of years were left. She says father hurry and give me the medicine. I want to take that medicine and see that person.

He helps her sit up and holds her in his arms. He feeds her the medicine. She cries. He asks if the medicine is bitter. YW: it’s really bitter. He says he will hold her until she sleeps. She says she likes being in his arms cuz there is a scent of her brother from his embrace. he says sleep comfortably in my arms. He finds the gift from H so she asks him to let her sleep with it inside her pocket holding it (probably meaning let her be buried with it). Please let me do that. father I am sleepy – I will sleep for a while. He calls out her name and holds her tighter. Her dad says: YW- I am sorry. I will follow you soon. Her hand falls.

He yells out her name. the mom comes running in.  she crawls over to YW and cradles her face and hugs her and cries.

HS breaks the news to H.  that in her father’s arms, like she was sleeping, YW closed her eyes comfortably. and the family will have a wake together. H hears the news and staggers to his feet. He walks in a daze and cant seem to walk straight. He stumbles outside and then he starts to run.

The guards say there is an order that H is to stay the whole day here. H cries and tells them to let him go. H: I have things to say to my wife. I still have things to say to her. let go. YW! YW! Let me go YW! Let me go. I have things left to say. YW!
